Comparing relationships

Candy and his dog have a good relationship because they have been together since the dog was a puppy. Candy has always been with the dog taking care of the dog and having the dog help heard sheep. Like George and Lennie, George looks after Lennie as if he was his dog, taking control when things need to be done. In both relationships there is the leader and the follower but without one another it’s like they lost a family member.

Questions

What do you think will happen next in your book? I think that in my book Hazel and the guy she is talking too will go on more dates and go to more meeting together. I think that Hazel health will go down. I think her health will go down because she kinda talks in a way that things will not get better.

What do you like about your book? I like when Hazel is with Augustus because the writing is more fun to read. When there together the book moves along faster.

What are you disliking about the book? I do not like when they are narating because it isn’t fun there is not much going on during that part and there kind of just trying to get something in that isn’t really needed I guess.

This compares to Limetown because in both stories they aren’t sure what’s going to happen next. There unsure if someone will die or if someone will get sick

Belonging

Belonging is something that people think differently about many people try their best to fit in and belong in a group. They want to be liked and well known having someone they can always rely on, a partner during a project the person who make eye contact to hitting that they are the one you are going to work with, and having a place to sit at during lunch looking nice and acting like everyone afraid of not fitting in with them is always in the back of someones head. But on the other hand there are people who do not think you need to belong and that being different is a good thing. Having people around you and make you feel good about being even if that means sitting alone. They want to feel like they belong not pretend that they do. Belonging to some isn’t the most important thing its about having a place where you feel you are loved.

Statement

Number 3 I gave a 10 ” The n-word is more offensive than other racial slurs because of the history of hate behind it.” I agree with this because the African Americans that were being called n word they were being told what to and punished for being told to do it. The word back then meant they weren’t like white people they were less closer to a animal.

Number 8 I gave a 2 “Being rich is more important than having friends.” I disagreed with this because I think having people around you to show that they care and support you over all give affection is more important. Rather than being rich, although you have money doesn’t mean it will bring you hippieness.

Hysteria

I see hysteria in limetown threw Max, he showed it because he was at first hesitant about Deirdra getting the implant but then he wanted her to get it right away. “Max came home he was frantic something was really off.” “I told him I had to think about it and he… grabbed me by the shoulders hard. No you’re getting it.” This is showing that he was upset, maybe confused, and afraid of her not getting it. But i’m not sure what caused the hysteria, I think it could have been he knew that bad things were coming (people will it go to stay) and he didn’t want to lose her. The effects of hysteria is that it caused him to grab her in ways that he usually wouldn’t. This led to the panic because once people found out about her getting it things went down and it lead to people killing each other and people scanning for weather or not they had the implant.

The Poet X

The book is corny to an extent but over all its a good I had a smile on my face the whole time. The Poet X is mostly about Xiomara, she is a young girl who is lost in life. This book is about her and the challenges her mother brings her, though out the book she struggles with religion and wanting to be with a boy doing things she knows going out side her religion. I don’t really like her in the begging of the book but by the middle I get why she is how she is.

I think the author is trying to have the big idea be coming of age or finding self worth. I think this because at the begging of the book she is very down about herself but by the end of the book she is starting to like her body, her hair and more of her heritage.

One thing that bugs in mine the book is how her mother treats her but then at the end of the book her mother being to act like she was supportive of her all along when she really wasn’t.

I choice this picture because it shows Xiomara finding herself and is putting her pieces together. And I kinda see the flower pot at the bottom holding her up like her poetry because she loved to write and I think that is what lead her to where she is at the end of the book.

I do like the author style of writing, as a person who struggles with reading having a book in poetry is easier for me to understand and made it fun. Elizabeth Acevedo the Author had each section of the book short and in poetry form with kept the book going, unlike other books it was never a dull moment leading up to what was going to happen it was just fun and always had something going on. Another thing that I liked was how Acevedo had some of her pages going in different directions almost showing in a deeper way that Xiomara wasn’t perfect.

Big idea

The Poet X- Identity:

I think that this book is mostly about Xiomara (X) finding her true self. Throughout the book X is always being pushed around by her mom, living her life to make her mom proud rather than living for her own satisfaction. At the begging of the book she is lost and doesn’t feel welcomed anywhere, not at school, church, and not even at home. X growing up in a strong religious that her mother make her feel like she not good enough for God. So X is lost in life when it comes to who she is and what her meaning of life is.

Toward the end of the book she realizes that she doesn’t want to live her life for someone but with some one. So she finds a guy who she thinks loves her and learns that she really like to talk to people and finds out that she is more of a talker rather than a listener. Growing up having to listen to her mom and the pastor wasn’t easy for her not being able to express herself in away poetry is something at brings her joy and satisfaction.

Technology

I think that technology goes to far when it comes to images, because I learned in a class that because technology is so strong that it has found ways to make people digitally. Being able to make people online is kind of a scary thing being able to make it look like people said something they didn’t. In class we talked about child porn being something that was created not with real people but with technology. Leading to arguments about weather or not this is a crime. It has also gone too far when it comes to AI, many kids will use AI on snapchat to write their essays and doing there math problems.

Technology has many benefits: being able to communicate with people easier, having Alexas in a houses to help and it can make learning fun. Technology will keep growing finding easier way for use to handle everyday things, as time progresses technology will become more beneficial in schools, workplaces and in homes. Having technology available to us not only saves time but also helps us grow.

Chapter 18

This chapter says that Zits father has gone through a lot of pain and abuse. Making him feel like he is not ready to be a dad, this could have been what lead him to leave Zits life and not be there for his birth.

I think Zits father had this memory because he saw the picture of his son and could only think about how his dad was to his son. Wanting to remind himself why he could not be there for his own kid.

The effect of that memory is Zits father did not want to bring that pain to him. He could have been scared that what he was raised on could be put on to Zits. Zits dad was probably unsure of the right way to raise a kid being he was hit and told things that hurt him.

Books that are banned and challenged

Why do people challenge and try to banned book? People try to get rid of books because there maybe a lot of harsh languages, Race, Genders, and talking about sexaul things. These could be taken differently for people who are more religious than others might argue that they shouldn’t be in school or in a Public Library. I’ve probably only read around three books that might have been challenged by other people, but I have read lots of books that I find weird to be at a school. I think banning books isn’t something that is necessary and that people can choose to put the book down.

Different reason that flight is a controversial book is because people might find it harsh. The words being used and the graphic detail about wars and about the fighting. It could also be argued as a book that is need to be read to learn about things in the world that have happened and people will say “Every one hears these words and says these words.” But that doesn’t mean that they want there teachers reading them to kids and parents might not want this to be available to them in a school district. There are issues with self esteem like Zits it a hard topic that he his constantly reminding himself that he isn’t good enough. Like other teens they often tell themself they are good enough don’t look like this or like that. But what makes him a controversial person is the fact that he is cussing and doing a lot killing, but these action could be because he has gone through about 20 foster homes and doesn’t have his culture around him.
